Use current variant-specific dimensions

Unitree lists standard R1 at 1,230 mm standing height, about 29 kg with battery and 26 degrees of freedom. The catalogue has been corrected to match the current manufacturer table.

Standard G1 is listed at 1,320 mm, about 35 kg with battery and 23 degrees of freedom. Different joint distributions mean total joint count alone does not establish task capability.

Standard is not the developer configuration

The R1 table separates AIR, R1 and EDU: AIR has 20 degrees of freedom, standard R1 has 26, and EDU spans 26–40 with optional dexterous hands. The page’s general open-control messaging should be checked against the exact quoted version.

Unitree likewise distinguishes G1 EDU configurations and provides their developer SDK and model files. Do not assume standard G1 includes that package or that every EDU includes hands.

Choose an evaluation plan, not a headline ranking

For a teaching or research proposal, ask which controller interfaces, simulation assets, sensors and hand options are included. Run the same intended experiment on the quoted configurations and specify supervision and fall-recovery requirements.

Lower listed mass is a physical difference, not proof of classroom safety, ease of maintenance or lower lifetime cost. Prices, delivery dates and local support were not established; obtain written configuration and service commitments before procurement.
