Overview
NASA’s R5 article, dated 23 September 2015, identifies Valkyrie as a Johnson Space Center design built for the 2013 DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials. The entirely electric humanoid was intended for degraded human-engineered environments. NASA describes subsequent hand, ankle and sensing modifications, so this record does not merge specifications from unrelated historical configurations.
The article documents wall or battery power, a Multisense SL perceptual sensor and a collaboration with IHMC on walking algorithms. Its stated 44 degrees of freedom is attributed to that historical NASA page. Valkyrie is included only as historical research, not as a commercially available product or evidence of a currently purchasable space-ready robot.
