NAO vs Pepper: compare interaction hardware and software generation

The accessible manufacturer documentation supports dimensional and interface comparisons, not current sales or support assumptions.

Different physical envelopes

Aldebaran’s NAO V6 dimensions are 574 mm high, 311 mm deep and 275 mm wide.

Pepper’s technical documentation gives 1,210 mm height, 480 mm width and 425 mm depth with arms down, rather than the catalogue’s rounded 1,200 mm. Arm position changes its working envelope.

Interaction hardware and application scope

NAO V6’s technical overview documents cameras, microphones, tactile sensing, joint-position sensors and foot force-sensitive resistors. These are hardware building blocks, not proof of an educational outcome or a finished interaction application.

Pepper’s technical overview includes a tablet, video and depth sensing, lasers, infrared and sonar. Verify the actual tablet, robot version and supported development environment before committing to a visitor-facing workflow.

Legacy documentation requires a support check

The catalogue-linked Aldebaran product URLs returned Maxtronics-branded pages rather than original manufacturer product evidence during HTTP review; their sales claims were not used. Historical manufacturer documentation was discoverable through search, but it does not confirm present availability, warranty or cloud-service continuity.

For teaching or human–robot interaction work, request a working example on the proposed hardware, software licensing details, offline-operation limits and repair commitments. Neither platform is established here as the preferable choice or as currently purchasable.
