Buying a humanoid robot in the UK
What to check before you buy: configuration, import, VAT, support and safety.
Be precise about the configuration
Many humanoids are sold in several configurations. A standard model and an EDU or developer model can differ in joints, hands, compute and software access, and prices differ accordingly.
When comparing quotes, make sure each one is for exactly the same configuration and includes the same accessories.
Check VAT, shipping and import
Prices may be shown with or without VAT. Businesses and institutions usually reclaim VAT, but should still compare like for like.
If the robot ships from outside the UK, ask who handles import duty and customs clearance, and whether the price includes delivery.
Ask about support and spares
Find out who provides warranty support in the UK, how repairs are handled, and how long spare parts take to arrive. For research use, check that the software development kit and documentation match your plans.
Plan for safety
Full-size humanoids are heavy and can move quickly. Plan a risk assessment, a clear test area and suitable supervision before the robot arrives.
